Although Cyprus is not currently a member of the Schengen Area, they are expected to join by 2022, when the ETIAS visa waiver system for US travelers will be implemented.

Once in place, all U.S. passport holders over the age of 18 will be required to apply for the online waiver in order to enter the Schengen Area visa-free. Each traveler will need to have:

  • A valid biometric U.S. passport
  • An approved ETIAS authorization

The ETIAS visa waiver is completed entirely online in minutes. Once submitted, applicants can expect the decision within 72 hours, though it often takes much less time than that. However, in order to avoid issues, it is important to apply with as much anticipation as possible

U.S. citizens over the age of 18 should be prepared to provide the following information for the ETIAS application:

  • Full name as it is on their passport
  • Place and date of birth
  • Current address
  • Intended itinerary, especially the first port of entry
  • Other personal data

Travelers will also be required to submit:

  • A current email address as all correspondence will be via email
  • A valid credit or debit card to pay the application fee

Once granted, the ETIAS visa waiver allows for stays inside the Schengen Area of up to 90 days inside of a 180 day period.

There is one U.S. embassy in Cyprus, it is located in the capital of Nicosia.

Tourist Travel Information about Cyprus

cyprusCyprus is an island nation situated in the eastern portion of the Mediterranean Sea. Although it is geographically closer to Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey, Cyprus is in fact a member-state of Europe and the European Union.

The island’s history as a strategic and historical site has led to a complex contemporary reality. A United Nations-controlled buffer zone runs across the island through the capital Nicosia. The northern section of the island is Turkish-Cypriot controlled while the southern section is Greek-Cypriot. Despite the separation, the entire country is popular for tourists thanks to its many beaches, charming cities, and mythical lore.

Interesting facts

  • Although Cyprus won its independence from British rule on August 16th, 1960, the entire country annually celebrates its independence day on October, 1st
  • There are a number of cafes in Cyprus that are only available to men
  • Although it is, of course, an island, fishing is not a large part of the industry or culture in Cyprus
  • The entire town of Paphos was granted UNESCO world heritage status thanks to its well-preserved ancient palaces, fortresses, and other historical monuments
  • Visitors may be perplexed when they see handkerchiefs tied to trees across the island, but locals believe that doing so can bring them back good fortune following a string of bad luck
  • The country’s unique wine Commandaria is thought by many to be the oldest wine in the world. It is produced in the southern region of the island and is rather sweet
  • The oldest known pet cat was found in Cyprus, archaeologists believe that it dates back over 9,500 years
