Tourist Travel Information about Cyprus
Cyprus is an island nation situated in the eastern portion of the Mediterranean Sea. Although it is geographically closer to Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey, Cyprus is in fact a member-state of Europe and the European Union. The island’s history as a strategic and historical site has led to a complex contemporary reality. A United Nations-controlled buffer zone runs across the island through the capital Nicosia. The northern section of the island is Turkish-Cypriot controlled while the southern section is Greek-Cypriot. Despite the separation, the entire country is popular for tourists thanks to its many beaches, charming cities, and mythical lore.
